ACT UP co-founder is

new head of Living Room

by Dan Hlad

Cleveland-The Cleveland Lesbian-Gay Center is pleased to welcome our newest staff person, Joe Carroccio, to our team. Joe will be taking over from Brian Gill as Living Room program manager.

You may remember Joe from the early years of ACT UP Cleveland. He was one of the founding members and had a hand in many of the progressions made in AIDS service in Cleveland (and everywhere else) in the early 1990s.

events coming up. First, the second Women's Coffee House will take place on Saturday, March 7 at Pilgrim Church, 2592 W. 14th St. in Cleveland's Tremont area, 7:00 pm to 11 pm. This month's featured entertainers will included everyone's favorite comedienne,

The Center

Along with the rest of ACT UP Cleveland, he was able to influence some key legislation including needle exchange programs for Cleveland and money set aside for people living with AIDS. Joe's a welcome addition to our staff. His activist background and knowledge in HIV and HIV policy will fit right in here at the Center.

Joe has already resurrected the gay, HIV positive couples group. It will meet the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 6:30 to 8:00pm at the Living Room.

The Living Room is located next to the Center at 1410 W. 29th St. It is open from 3 pm to 8 pm Monday through Friday. Come in to socialize, meet Joe, or attend one of our groups for HIV positive people. Call 216522-1998 for more information.

The Ta-Da dinner series is back by popular demand. Coming in March a new series of fabulous dinner parties will be hosted by friends of the Center. Dinner prices and dates vary; for more information call us.

Don't miss out on a couple of very cool

Karen Williams plus music by Marcia Erickson and Laurel McDargh. The Women's Coffee House Series is a monthly nonalcoholic, women-only event. $5 donation at the door.

Also, don't miss a special remembrance of Robbie Kirkland's short life on February 22 at Lakewood Presbyterian Church. This event is will feature a special viewing of In the Life (a public-TV show about gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people) and a special appearance by Robbie's parents.

This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by Safe Schools are for Everyone, or SSAFE; the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network, and the Ohio chapter of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association. For more information on either of these wonderful events, please call 216-522-1999.

And finally, thanks to Code Blue nightclub for their help and hospitality in putting together our fund-raising raffle on February 13. Thanks also to Alice Paul Printers for their great work in helping us put together our 1997 annual report, and thanks to everyone who purchased tickets to our Rent fundraiser in June. We sold out of performance tickets quickly. Reception tickets are still available; call us for details.
